Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab) is a not-for-profit civic tech company that works at the intersection of emerging cutting-edge technological tools and their applications by equipping young professionals to solve emerging challenges in our community. About the project

Nepali Yuwa in Climate Action and Green Growth (TheYouthCAN.org) project is funded by the European Union to promote the involvement of young Nepali people in green growth, environmental protection, and combating climate change. TheYouthCAN.org is a four-year-long project that has been implemented in Madhesh Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpashchim Province through the consortium partners Youth Innovation Lab (YI-LAB), Restless Development Nepal, CREASION, and CDMS.

TheYouthCAN.org focuses on working with young people, and empowering and providing them a platform to aid towards the post-COVID recovery and development process. Furthermore, the activities under Climate Fellowship, Climate Smart Entrepreneurship, Mentee-mentorship, Digital Advocacy, and Youth Sounding Board work towards empowering young people, providing them employment opportunities, generating innovative ideas to address climate and environmental issues, and advocating for policy changes to promote environmental protection.

Job Description 

The Short-Term Climate Fellowship Coordinator will support the final phase of the Climate Fellowship project, focusing on the coordination, finalization, and documentation of key deliverables. The coordinator will work closely with the DRR Expert, provincial and municipal governments, to finalize and endorse the Local Disaster Climate Resilience Frameworks (LDCRFs) across Madhesh provinces. The role includes organizing the Climate Fellowship Graduation Ceremony, conducting end-line assessments and monitoring visits, compiling final reports, and ensuring compliance with organizational and donor requirements to successfully close the project.


Qualifications 

Education and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Climate Science/Studies, Disaster Risk Management, or any other relevant field. Master's preferred. 
  • At least three years of working experience in Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Management, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment. 
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Bipad Portal and prior experience of working with local governments to develop LDCRP is an advantages.
  • Working experience with young people and youth engagement is an asset.
  •  Prior experience of working with EU/USAID/FCDO-funded projects would be a plus.

Skills and competencies

  • Ability to develop and maintain coordination and contact with partnered Provincial and Municipal governments.
  • Coordinate with young people and guide them accordingly.
  • Efficiency in GIS.  
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in organizing events, consultations, and training.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Nepali.
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, track progress, and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
  • Advanced skill in using computers and IT, and good experience in using the digital platform.

                                    Roles and Responsibilities

                                    1. Coordination and Implementation

                                     Coordinate with provincial and municipal governments for the finalization and endorsement of the developed Local Disaster Climate Resilience Framework (LDCRFs) in target municipalities.

                                     Work closely with the DRR Expert and technical team to finalize and compile LDCRF reports of Madhesh Province

                                     Support the organization of the Climate Fellowship Graduation Ceremony, including coordination with Climate Fellows, municipal representatives, and relevant stakeholders.

                                     Ensure smooth completion of all pending project activities in line with the approved work plan and donor requirements.

                                    2. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Documentation

                                     Coordinate and support the end-line assessment of project municipalities to document results, challenges, and impacts of the Climate Fellowship program.

                                     Conduct field monitoring and evaluation (M&E) visits as needed to verify data, collect feedback, and assess project outcomes.

                                     Gather and document key learnings, success stories, and best practices from Climate Fellows and municipal engagements.

                                    3. Reporting and Closure

                                     Prepare and submit the final narrative and assist in the financial reports of the Climate Fellowship project in coordination with the finance and technical teams.

                                     Contribute to the project completion report, including summaries of activities, outputs achieved, and lessons learned.

                                     Maintain proper documentation and ensure compliance with both organizational and donor requirements during project closure.
