Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab) is a not-for-profit civic tech company that works at the intersection of emerging cutting-edge technological tools and their applications by equipping young professionals to solve emerging challenges in our community. YI-Lab harnesses indigenous knowledge, citizen science approach, develops low-cost technological solutions, promotes open data, promotes entrepreneurship, and conducts evidence-based advocacy campaigns. Job Description 

The role emphasizes mural development, public-facing visual design, and community-oriented storytelling through art. The consultant will ensure that all design products are inclusive, user-centered, and aligned with the local context and communication goals. 


Qualifications 

Education and experience

  1. Bachelor's degree with minimum 3 years of professional experience in people-centric or community-based design
  2. Proven experience with mural or public art projects, especially in rural or low-resource settings
  3. Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, or equivalent.
  4. Familiarity with user-centered design methodologies and agile collaboration.
  5. Strong visual storytelling skills.
  6.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Passion for social innovation, community empowerment, and inclusive communication.

                              Roles and Responsibilities


                              Design Development: Develop people-centric visual designs and artwork, with a strong focus on mural art for community spaces; Translate complex ideas into accessible visual formats for public understanding.

                              Collaboration: Work closely with YI-Lab’s project and communication teams to co-create mural concepts and visual tools; Coordinate with mural artists, community stakeholders, and local governments during implementation.

                              Prototyping and Iteration: Prepare prototypes of mural and design concepts for feedback and validation.

                              Learning and Innovation: Stay informed on design trends, public communication techniques, and community art practices; Contribute creative ideas for impactful communication at the intersection of art, data, and local narratives.
