2. About the project
While internet usage is on the rise, governments
in South Asia have proposed or are implementing draconian laws to limit digital
rights. Women and youth in South Asia are inordinately impacted by these laws
and practices. Research has demonstrated that few civil society organizations
(CSOs) able to engage in Internet policymaking processes and that the few who
are able to engage are not the people most adversely impacted. In response,
Internews and partners propose Protecting Online Rights of Changemakers (PORCH), a 24-month project aiming to empower youth and women's
voices and promote gender equity and equality in digital and cyber policymaking
in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. PORCH will achieve this overall
goal by increasing youth and women-led CSOs knowledge, inclusion, and
participation in key policy debates around internet governance issues.
